Juice Feasting Day 1

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, Sunday, November 15, 2009 I started the beginning of my juice feast. I did water only for 24 hours and I must say it wasn't too bad had a few hunger pains after that depressing Cowboy loss but I survived. This morning I woke up and made about 40 ozs of juice I figure that will last me most of the day and I will make some more this evening when I get home.

What was in it?
Carrots, Apple, Celery, lemon, spinach

Issue, because of the type of juicer I have the spinach didn't juice very well. So I think from now going forward I will use the leafy greens in the blender with water so that I get the full nutritional value of them. They are too expensive to use a whole pack of greens and only get 3 ozs of juice.

I want to thank you for joining me on this journey it should be interesting at the very least. I'm not new to this as I did it 3 1/2 years ago for 21 days. It was a great experience for me as I really felt for the first time a true sense of self control. While on the first fast the only thing thing that I would have changed knowing what I know now is that I would have consumed more leafy green vegetable juice. But nevertheless I felt great during the duration of the fast.

What made me make the decision to go from the Raw foods to the juice fast?
While I lost 46 lbs on the raw food diet and was feeling great I had a problem. On Holloween I consumed a bunch of chocolate candy. Which led me to binging on chocolate and potato chips, popcorn, more chocolate. This consumption led to me craving I mean seriously craving cooked foods again. Nevertheless, I gained 7 lbs over the course of a couple of weeks while fighting and sometimes giving in to my cravings. Mostly good foods with the exception of the chips, and peanut butter(skippy). So I felt myself going backwards and I figure that I need to rededicate myself to my goal of being healthy and feeling good again.

Currently my weight is 257 and I have a goal of getting down to 220 by New Years Day. This is the what I weighed in high school/freshman year of college. So I have about 45 days to lose 37lbs.

Here are a couple of interesting websites I came across last night on Juice Feasting: http://www.juicefeasting.com , http://www.globaljuicefeast.com

I would love to hear your thoughts, concerns, questions or advice... Until next time!!!

  1. Good morning Jeff-Great idea and thanks for sharing with us your ideas, insights and journey.

I have been juicing for years (off and on). I thought the fresh juice had to be consumed almost immediately due to the fact it doesn't have any of the harmful perservatives. How is it that you are making approx 40 oz and drinking it throughout the day?

Good luck and I'm interested in reading about your journey!

  2. Hi K,

Great question. While it is certainly better the faster you drink it. (And I consume the first 16 ozs right away.)As it starts to lose its nutrients and potency because it's not pasteurized and doesn't have preservatives. But from what I've read, if you keep it in the fridge and an airtight container it will keep for up to 24 hours. But I try and finish it within about 8-10 max.

  4. Thanks Jeff. I read the article and found the information useful. One thing I recently discovered which helps me in the morning(when time is limited) is to cut up my vegs and fruits the night before and store them in a glass bowl in the refrigerator. In the morning its so easy to take the bowl from the frige and start juicing. For me the extra added bonus is the juice is colder b/c the fruit/vegs haven't started to warm to room temps.

  5. That's a good idea K. Will certainly make it easier in the morning. This morning I put a few ice cubes in it to cool it off. But I will definitely do that tonight after I have my juice...

  6. Thanks a lot Jeff for sharing this info. I have also been jucing off and on for sometime and the weight has certainly came off and back on along the way. I am currently rotating between Isalean shakes and juicing in the morning and evening and a simple lunch. It's challenging to try and have either for lunch because the loss of potency. I have tried different containers and they did not work. I will follow your tips and hopefully get better results. Thanks for sharing.

  7. okay, i started yesterday. In the morning i had spinach, apple. banana, cucumber. (blended) very tasty. i tried to get my daughter to drink it but she wasn't having it. i finally found something i don't have to share with her. for lunch i had beet, cucumber and carrots (juiced). now that was good but i forgot i can't do raw carrots or celery. i'm allergic. that sucks because carrots and celery is very good for you for many things. I will try to get three in today because i actually feel pretty good. by the time i finish, i will have my daughter drinking it too.

  8. by the way, my goal is to get this extra weight off me by killing the sweat cravings through juicing. also i need to reduce my blood pressure that runs as high as 176/99. i hope your wife doesn't see that cause she will kill me.

  9. @Cee: Welcome aboard! Yesterday I found the juice was okay in the afternoon. Yes, I'm sure it lost some of the oxidation but it was still good for energy as it probably had quite a bit of simple sugar which is really what the body thrives on. Also, try adding lemon to it or another citrus fruit as it will help it to keep better. I use a glass container (old 24 oz tomato sauce jar) and that seems to hold up pretty well. Good Luck!

  10. @Ayesha, sounds great!! Too bad on the carrots and celery. But your body tells you what it wants. And there are plenty of things that can replace them. The weight will come off in no time. Try and add a little exercise in there when you can. I know it's ruff though with your little ones.
